CHINA BUILDS GIANT WARSHIPS DESIGNED TO TAKE ISLANDS
China just rolled out its fourth massive amphibious assault ship—military code for a floating base that carries troops, tanks, helicopters, and landing craft straight onto beaches.
It’s called the Type 075, and it’s part of a fleet built to storm islands like Taiwan, which Beijing insists belongs to them—even though Taiwan governs itself and wants no part of that.
Each Type 075 is over 780 feet long, can carry nearly 1,000 troops, dozens of vehicles, and multiple helicopters.
The Pentagon calls them “highly capable” and says they give China the power to launch full-scale invasions and global missions.
These ships now serve under the Southern Theater Command, which covers the South China Sea—where China has been bullying smaller nations and claiming nearly all the waters.
And while this fourth ship is joining the fleet, China is already working on its next-gen Type 076, designed to launch fixed-wing aircraft like mini-aircraft carriers.
