多国填补WHO资金缺口中国成最大资助方

$170 MILLION FLOODS INTO WHO AS U.S. HEADS FOR THE DOOR

With the U.S. heading for the exit, other countries are racing to fill the gap at the World Health Organization (WHO).

This week, over $170 million in new donations poured in, led by countries like Switzerland ($40M), Sweden ($13.5M), Angola ($8M), and Qatar ($6M).

China pledged a massive $500 million, though it’s still being tallied.

The pledges come as the WHO scrambles to stay afloat after the U.S.—its top donor at 18% of funding—announced plans to withdraw.

To help stabilize the agency, countries also agreed to raise their annual dues by 20%, officially making China the biggest government funder.

The WHO has already slashed its next budget by 20% to $4.2 billion and cut management jobs, hoping to become less dependent on a few major powers.

For now, the donations offer a lifeline—and signal a global reshuffle in who gets the loudest voice in world health.
