A movie based on the 2023 firing and rehiring of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is in development, with the working title “Artificial.”
Amazon MGM Studios is producing the film, and Luca Guadagnino is set to direct. Andrew Garfield is reportedly the top choice to play Altman, while Monica Barbaro and Yura Borisov are in talks to portray CTO Mira Murati and co-founder Ilya Sutskever.
The film will focus on the events surrounding Altman’s sudden removal by OpenAI’s board, led by Sutskever, and his rapid return just days later. Production could begin this summer, although it is unclear if the film will release in theaters or stream on Prime Video.
Sutskever left OpenAI in 2024 and launched Safe Superintelligence, now valued at $30 billion. OpenAI itself is valued at $300 billion, with Microsoft as one of its largest investors.
The project reflects growing public interest in the real-world drama behind major tech companies.
